Catalytic treatment of mercaptans

For more than 20 years, the Europhtal brand has been recognized worldwide for our catalysts for the oxidation of mercaptans in softening units.
Many international standards in the fields of sulfur and mercaptans must be met for the production of LPG, Naphtha, Kerosene, and more.

To achieve this, two types of catalytic units (extractive and sweetening) can be used.

Overall oxidation reaction in the reactor:

4 R-SH + O₂ -> 2 RSSR + 2H₂O

We have two types of mercaptan treatment catalysts:

  • Extraction of mercaptans (liquid/liquid extractive process): liquid catalyst
  • Transformation of mercaptans (fixed bed process): solid catalyst (impregnated carbon)

Treatment of mercaptans

Europhtal catalysts dedicated to the treatment of mercaptans operate by liquid/liquid reaction for butanes, propanes, LPG and light gasolines.
There are three products available for the treatment of mercaptans.

Quality engagement

In order to verify the efficiency of our mercaptans treatment catalysts, Quadrimex Chemical is committed to controlling all critical phases of the process:

– Selective synthesis of the catalyst and optimal formulation
– Selection of the appropriate activated carbon type for perfect impregnation

All these controls are carried out by our engineering and laboratory department, located on our premises in France (Cavaillon).

Thanks to our expertise, we provide technical support to our customers in order to:

– Optimize catalyst consumption
– Improve reaction parameters (air flow rate, temperature, etc.)
– Monitor the effectiveness of sweetening
